On October 14, the Sikh Coalition will conduct an in-person training seminar entitled Raising the Sikh Voice at the Local Level for Bay Area sangat members, and we invite you to join us! This training is designed for community members to learn the skills necessary to take their community involvement to the next level.

What will you learn during this free seminar presented by the Sikh Coalition?

  • Strategies to elevate the Sikh profile in your local community;
  • Presentation skills for effectively conveying Sikh Awareness resources to educators, workplaces, community partners, and interfaith partners; and

The Sikh Coalition is excited to host our annual virtual legal conference, Realizing Justice For All, on September 30, 2022.

Hosted in partnership with law firms Winston & Strawn LLP and Weil, Gotshal, & Manges LLP, this conference offers an opportunity for lawyers and law students to gain CLE accreditation while learning about the core civil rights issues facing Sikhs and other minority groups in the United States. Legal professionals who attend the conference will acquire 3.0 CLE General or Elimination of Bias credits (depending on your state).

This year, the conference will feature special guest speakers Janai Nelson (President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund) and Paul Grewal (Chief Legal Officer of Coinbase and retired ​​U.S. Federal Magistrate Judge). In addition, we look forward to recognizing the Stanford University Law School Religious Liberty Clinic as the recipient of the Pro Bono Sevadar of the Year award!

We hope to see you this year as we explore new topics in law and justice. The all-day conference will feature robust critical discussions by some of our nation’s leading experts on issues including:

    • From Palo Alto to Punjab: Free Speech in the Age of Disinformation and Holding Social Media Platforms Accountable;
    • The Miseducation of CRT: What it Is and What it Isn’t; and
    • Past, Present, Future: The Battle For Voting Rights

Registrants are encouraged to attend for the full day. Registration includes CLE certifications and is $100 for private attorneys, $50 for public interest and government attorneys, and free for current law students. The Sikh Coalition invites you to join us for our first-ever virtual legal conference, Realizing Justice For All. As our organization approaches a milestone anniversary since our founding in September 2001, we are partnering with Winston & Strawn LLP and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP to host this conference for lawyers and law students to gain CLE accreditation while learning about the core civil rights issues facing Sikhs in the last 20 years.

The conference will take place on Friday, September 24, 2021, from 11 AM to 5 PM ET. Legal professionals and current law students will have the opportunity to acquire CLE accreditation in Elimination of Bias, Diversity, or Ethics depending on their state. Attendees will join panel discussions and learn from community leaders, activists, and national experts on topics including combating discrimination based on the intersectionality of race, religion, and caste; understanding immigration patterns and challenges; and addressing bias crimes. The conference will also include a networking hour for attendees to connect with one another. In addition, we are excited to announce that Gurbir Grewal, Director of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, will deliver the keynote address this year.

  • Registration includes CLE certifications and is $100 for private attorneys, $50 for public interest and government attorneys, and free for current law students.
  • Registrants are encouraged to attend the conference for the full day.

The Sikh Coalition, in partnership with the Simon Wiesenthal Center Museum of Tolerance, is excited to announce the display of the groundbreaking Sikh Project photography exhibition at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. The Sikh Project, a collaboration with the talented British photographers Amit and Naroop, captures the beauty of the Sikh faith and the depth of the Sikh American experience. Launched to critical acclaim in 2016, this display of the exhibition will include 28 portraits of Sikh men and women that embody the triumphs, challenges, and diversity of the Sikh community in the United States.

The Museum of Tolerance will be hosting the Sikh Project photography exhibition from September 11th-November 3rd in an effort to honor its commitment to fostering tolerance and understanding through community involvement, educational outreach, and social action. Events like these are imperative to raising the Sikh profile, leading to greater awareness and knowledge about Sikhs and also ensuring Sikhs have a space to share their own narrative.

WHAT: The groundbreaking Sikh Project photography exhibition at the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance

WHEN: September 11-November 3, 2019. We advise you to arrive early to take advantage of the free underground parking at the museum, as available.

WHERE: The Museum of Tolerance, located at Simon Wiesenthal Plaza, 9786 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90035. Free underground parking is available at the Museum on a first come, first served basis, and carpooling is encouraged! Please be considerate of the Museum’s residential neighbors and make every effort to avoid driving through single-family residential neighborhood streets. Please read more about parking here.
